Choreographer/New media artist Beliz Demircioglu Cihandide received her BFA and MPS from New York University’s dance department and Interactive Telecommunications Program. Beliz has performed for choreographers Nacho Duato, Nicolo Fonte, Linda Tarnay, James Sutton, Berrak Yedek among many others. In 2005 with her collaborator Jamie Allen they received a fellowship from Mikhail Baryshnikov for their multimedia dance piece “Vantage Point.”Her interactive installation “Intouch” was chosen by UN Headquarters to be exhibited as the “first interactive artwork” at the UN Building. Kofi Annan opened the exhibition. Her works have been showcased at Codice-Idee per la Cultura, Eyebeam Gallery, Jack H. Skirball Center, Vancouver NIME, Tedance Festival and Bjcem Biennial among other venues. With Artistic Director Aylin Kalem, Beliz co-founded boDig, an Istanbul based arts initiative focusing mainly on the issues of the body in contemporary and digital culture. Beliz’s latest choreography, boDig’s production “The Knot Theory” was showcased in boDig08 Festival (Istanbul) and Rencontres Chorégraphiques de Carthage (Tunisia). Her installations intouch and the crowd in us were exhibited at the bodig09 at the Centre Des Arts (Enghien Les Bains-Paris). Beliz currently teaches dance technique at the Performance Art Track of Istanbul Bilgi University and continues to create new works. Her work has been reviewed in International Herald Tribune, New York Times, Hurriyet, Vatan…etc. Beliz has received the “Rudin Interactive Telecommunications Award” in New York. |
